Integrated Topic Drought

Easy Blog Photo

This is unfortunately the copy that Maxwell  had ready for me when it was time for blogging. I can see that he had been working hard on his copy but then made his way over to someone who was removed from the learning area for misbehaviour. They were both required to stay in to make up the learning time which was wasted.

This is much better work - I can now see that you have worked hard and it is a copy you can be proud of.

We are learning about how the sun affects the earth.

Success Criteria:

  • Explain water moves in a cycle.
  • Explain how drought affects living things and our planet

Temperature - Hot and Cold

The Oaklands Olympics

Maxwell is giving hockey a go while practising his small ball skills and motor skills.

Reading

I am learning to pick books that are a good fit for me in the library.

Student voice: "These books are too hard for me. I don't get books here."

Maxwell, Zach and DiDi reading in the library.

Numeracy Strand: Fractions

We are learning to split numbers in half (1/2)

I know I am successful when the number is the same (equal) on each side.

Harper is collaborating Maxwell to help him come to a new understanding!

Reading

I can read to lots of different people.

Maxwell is reading to one of our big buddies as a part of our Friday programme and gardening, cooking and literacy.

Topic: Habitat

We are learning to make a habitat for a compost worm.

On our field trip we learned to importance of food, shelter, water and stopping sunlight from going into our compost worms habitats.

Logan, Maxwell and Hunter are adding water and soil to the newspaper to make the habitat for their worms.

Reading

I am learning to find words that I know before I start reading.

Scanning the page for these words helps us to self correct our reading

Maxwell: I know the word 'a'

Numeracy: Numbers to 10

We are learning to solve a puzzle to 10.

We had never seen this puzzle complete before but we worked together and collaborated with the help of our number knowledge - we worked it out! Look how proud we are :)

Key competencies: Relating to others, participating and contributing and thinking.

Writing

We are learning to write words that we find in our reading books.
